New findings in the investigation into the murder of Pune-based realtor Ketan Agarwal have revealed that he suspected his fiancée, Siya Goyal, of being involved with another man and had questioned his family about whether proper background checks were conducted before their marriage was arranged. He had also repeatedly voiced concerns about Siya’s close association with Chetan Chaudhary, who is alleged to be both her lover and a co-accused in the case.
Police said Ketan’s father, Vishal Agarwal, informed investigators that his son had frequently expressed worries about Siya’s behaviour and often mentioned her repeated references to Chetan during their conversations.
According to PTI, Ketan’s concerns began after a pre-wedding trip to Bali, Indonesia, was cancelled on June 6. He reportedly told his father that Siya had started arguing over minor matters. In response, his father reassured him, suggesting that her behaviour could be attributed to her young age and promising that the family would speak with her.
Investigators said Ketan also complained that Siya’s phone was frequently busy whenever he tried to contact her and that she often brought up Chetan in their discussions. He told his family that he believed she might be involved in a relationship with someone else.
Despite these concerns, Ketan’s family reportedly assured him that there was no immediate cause for worry, noting that they were acquainted with the Goyal family through relatives.
A police official stated that after the Bali trip was cancelled on June 6, Ketan approached his father about Siya’s tendency to start arguments over small issues. His father reportedly advised him not to read too much into it and said the family would counsel her.
The official further said that after returning from Lohagad Fort on June 14, Ketan again asked his father whether sufficient background verification had been carried out before finalising the marriage.
According to the official, Ketan told his father that Siya’s phone was often occupied when he called and that she regularly mentioned Chaudhary during their conversations.
Ketan was allegedly pushed off a cliff at Lohagad Fort on June 18 by Siya Goyal, 20, and Chetan Chaudhary, 22. The couple had been scheduled to marry in November.
Both accused have been arrested and have been remanded to police custody until July 3.
