Indian stock markets will remain closed on Friday, June 26, 2026, on account of Muharram, giving market participants a long weekend.
Both the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) will suspend trading across equity, derivatives, currency derivatives, Securities Lending and Borrowing (SLB), and Electronic Gold Receipts (EGR) segments for the day. Regular trading will resume on Monday, June 29, 2026.
Market closure details
The NSE and BSE have marked June 26 as a trading holiday for Muharram, meaning there will be no market activity throughout the day. Since exchanges are also closed on Saturday and Sunday, this results in a three-day break for traders and investors.
On normal trading days, the Indian markets operate from 9:15 am to 3:30 pm, with a pre-open session from 9:00 am to 9:15 am for price discovery.
When markets reopen
Trading will resume on Monday, June 29, following the extended weekend.
Upcoming holidays
After Muharram, the next stock market holiday will be on September 14, 2026, for Ganesh Chaturthi. Other remaining holidays for the year include:
October 2 – Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti
October 20 – Dussehra
November 10 – Diwali-Balipratipada
November 24 – Prakash Gurpurb Sri Guru Nanak Dev
December 25 – Christmas
Investors are advised to plan trades accordingly around these non-trading days.
