Near Mangaluru, a gang stops a Kerala trader's vehicle and steals 180g of gold jewelry

A seven-member gang allegedly carried out a highway robbery near Baikampady on the outskirts of Mangaluru in the early hours of Monday, intercepting a Kerala-bound gold trader’s vehicle and escaping with 180 grams of gold jewellery.

The trader, identified as Vikas from Sangli in Maharashtra, was travelling from Sangli to Payyanur in Kerala with his wife and child when the incident occurred. According to police, the gang, travelling in an Innova, blocked his car by abruptly applying brakes in front of it at around 2:15 am.

The accused allegedly forced Vikas out of his vehicle and then drove away with the car, which contained a bag carrying 180 grams of gold jewellery.

After taking control of the vehicle, the gang reportedly left Vikas’s wife and child near Kuloor before fleeing the area.

The robbery was captured on CCTV cameras, providing investigators with crucial evidence. Police suspect the accused may have escaped either towards Kerala or Bengaluru and have launched a search operation to track them down.
