Three devotees lost their lives and six others were injured on Monday after a truck transporting CNG cylinders crashed into a stationary bus on the Jaipur-Ajmer Highway in Rajasthan, according to police.
The incident occurred near Mahla village, where the bus carrying devotees returning from the Sanwariya Seth temple had been parked on the roadside due to a mechanical breakdown.
Mokhampura SHO Suresh Gurjar said the bus suffered a technical fault after its axle allegedly broke. The driver moved the vehicle to the side of the highway, and repairs were being carried out when a speeding truck loaded with CNG cylinders struck it from the rear.
The force of the impact caused the bus to overturn, creating chaos among the passengers. Three devotees—Madhura, Rahul Harijan, and Bhanwar Singh Rajawat—died at the scene.
Six others, identified as Kanta, Rohan, Varsha, Kartik, Rekha, and Chanchal Aadiwal, were injured in the accident and taken to a nearby hospital. Police said five victims were discharged after first aid, while one person remains in critical condition.
Initial inquiries indicate that the passengers were residents of various parts of Jaipur and were returning from the Sanwariya Seth temple after offering prayers when the accident took place.
Truck Driver Absconds, Investigation Continues
The truck driver allegedly fled immediately after the crash, leaving the vehicle behind on the highway. Police have filed a case and started efforts to locate and arrest the driver.
Investigators are examining the factors that may have caused the accident, including the possibility of overspeeding or driver negligence.
The collision temporarily disrupted traffic on the Jaipur-Ajmer Highway as rescue teams and police worked to assist the victims and remove the overturned bus. Further investigation is ongoing.
