Sony may charge more than Rs 1 lakh for the PS5 sequel, according to a PlayStation 6 price leak

Gamers planning to buy Sony’s next-generation console may need to prepare for a much higher price tag. A recent leak suggests that the PlayStation 6 could launch at more than $1,000 (around Rs 94,330), potentially making it the most expensive PlayStation console ever released.

The information comes from hardware insider KeplerL2, who posted on the NeoGAF gaming forum. According to the leak, the PS6’s Bill of Materials (BoM)—the estimated cost of the components required to build the console—has climbed to around $1,000. Earlier estimates from March 2026 had placed the manufacturing cost at approximately $750 (around Rs 70,767), meaning the projected cost has increased by about $250 (around Rs 23,583) in just a few months.

However, the BoM only reflects the cost of parts and does not include expenses such as assembly, packaging, transportation, marketing, and retailer margins. As a result, if the console truly costs $1,000 to manufacture, its retail price could fall between $1,100 and $1,200 (roughly Rs 1.04 lakh to Rs 1.13 lakh), nearly double the launch price of the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition in India, which debuted at Rs 49,990.

The leak also suggests that delaying the PS6 launch may not help lower costs. According to KeplerL2, Sony has already finalized the console’s specifications, meaning a postponement would not allow the company to switch to cheaper or more advanced components. If hardware costs continue to rise, delaying the launch could actually worsen the pricing situation rather than improve it.

The reported increase in PS6 production costs reflects a broader trend affecting the technology industry. Rising component prices have already led several manufacturers to raise product prices. Recent reports indicate that Apple increased prices for some MacBook and iPad models in India, highlighting the growing pressure on electronics manufacturers worldwide.

If the leak proves accurate, the PlayStation 6 could become one of the clearest examples yet of how escalating hardware costs are reshaping the consumer technology market. However, Sony has not officially announced the PS6 or its pricing, so these figures remain speculative for now.
