The day before killing his fiancé, Siya Goyal's boyfriend planned his murder at a cafe in Pune: Police

A coffee meeting between Siya Goyal and her boyfriend Chetan Chaudhary in Pune on June 17 is alleged to have been the point where the plan to kill her fiancé, 25-year-old businessman Ketan Agarwal, was discussed, according to police. The meeting reportedly took place a day before Agarwal was pushed into a gorge at Lohagad Fort during a trek on June 18.

Investigators claim that during their time at the café, the duo discussed and planned the alleged murder, with Siya reportedly sharing details about Lohagad Fort and even referring to YouTube videos to explain the location. CCTV footage accessed by India Today reportedly shows the two arriving at around 4:35 pm and leaving at approximately 5:30 pm.

Ketan Agarwal, who was the director and Chief Marketing Officer of his family-run real estate firm Success Group, died after falling into a gorge at Lohagad Fort near Pune while on a trek with Siya. The couple had been engaged earlier in the year and were scheduled to marry in November, with families also planning an elaborate wedding in Udaipur.

Initially, Siya told police that Ketan had slipped while the couple were taking photographs near a windy edge of the fort. An accidental death report was first registered, and rescue teams later recovered his body after a three-hour operation.

However, the case later shifted to a murder investigation as police identified inconsistencies in her statements along with CCTV footage, digital records, and witness accounts. Investigators continued reviewing surveillance footage and mobile data from the start, even as the family initially treated the death as accidental.

Police said the first major doubt arose when Siya gave conflicting versions of the incident. In one account, she said Ketan slipped while they were taking photos; in another, she said he slipped while handing her a water bottle after they stopped to rest.

Investigators also pointed to the absence of photographs from the location on Ketan’s phone, despite claims that pictures were being taken. They further noted that the fall site was relatively isolated and not commonly used by trekkers, adding to their suspicions.

CCTV footage from Lohagad Fort and surrounding areas reportedly showed a hooded man near the couple on the trail. Police said Siya was seen glancing back at him multiple times and making a gesture that appeared to be acknowledged.

Based on call detail records, mobile location data, and travel analysis, police identified the hooded individual as Chetan Chaudhary. They also noted that he reached the fort before the couple and stayed for a short duration, which investigators say suggested a specific purpose rather than a casual visit.

Following questioning and interrogation, police claim they uncovered details that helped reconstruct the sequence of events. They also stated that both accused allegedly confessed, though officials said the confessions were corroborated with CCTV footage, forensic evidence, and digital records before any arrests were made.

The investigation is ongoing, with police continuing to examine all available technical and physical evidence to establish the full sequence of events leading to Ketan Agarwal’s death.
