Transport Minister Vijay states that Tamil Nadu will only have AC government buses going forward

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay has announced that the state government will procure only air-conditioned buses in the future. The announcement was conveyed by Transport Minister Vijay Tamilan Parthiban, who said the Chief Minister wants people to travel widely and comfortably in AC-equipped public transport.

Parthiban made the remarks while speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a TVK event in Salem on Sunday. He stated that Vijay aims to ensure that even the most remote parts of Tamil Nadu are connected through an extensive bus network. According to him, the Chief Minister also wants all buses to be equipped with facilities that allow every passenger, including himself, to travel comfortably.

Speaking to the media, Parthiban said that although Vijay recently travelled on a government bus, he expressed a desire for all newly procured buses to be fitted with air-conditioning systems.

The statement comes shortly after Vijay flagged off a fleet of 300 new buses across Tamil Nadu. During the event, the actor-turned-politician was seen interacting with a bus conductor.

The newly inducted fleet, acquired at a cost of ₹127.21 crore, includes 164 diesel buses and 136 BS-VI-compliant CNG buses. These vehicles have been deployed from major transport hubs such as Koyambedu and Kilambakkam to improve connectivity and reduce waiting times for passengers.

Several senior ministers and officials from the state Transport Department attended the launch ceremony.

The move is part of TVK’s broader vision to modernise Tamil Nadu’s public transportation system, enhance commuter facilities, and strengthen connectivity throughout the state.
