A shocking case of alleged family violence has emerged from Uttar Pradesh's Fatehpur district, where a 22-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly murdering his newly-married sister and disposing of her body in a well following a dispute over her relationship with her boyfriend. According to police officials, the accused, identified as Sandeep Yadav, voluntarily surrendered before authorities at the Haswa police outpost, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Thariyanv police station, on Saturday morning. During his surrender, he allegedly confessed to killing his sister and informed officers about the circumstances surrounding the crime. Acting on his statement, the police registered a case against him and immediately took him into custody for further questioning and investigation.
Fatehpur Superintendent of Police Abhimanyu Manglik stated that the victim, 20-year-old Ranju, had been married approximately one and a half months ago to a man residing in a village under the Radhanagar police station area. Following the wedding, she returned to her parental home as part of a customary post-marriage visit, a common practice observed in many families after a bride's marriage.
However, according to the police investigation, events took a complicated turn during her stay at her parents' house. Officials said that Ranju allegedly left her home with her boyfriend, who reportedly belonged to a different community, and remained away for three days before returning. The development reportedly created concern and tension within the family. After her return, family members counselled her and later sent her back to her husband's home in an attempt to restore normalcy.
Despite these efforts, police said that Ranju continued to express her desire to live with her boyfriend rather than remain in her marital relationship. Police officials stated that the verbal dispute gradually escalated into a serious confrontation. During the altercation, Sandeep allegedly strangled his sister, resulting in her death. After the alleged murder, Sandeep is accused of attempting to conceal the crime.
