A resident of Bihar's Kishanganj district has alleged that police named him in an FIR related to last week's NEET paper leak protests despite the fact that he has been living abroad for the past four months. Mohammad Sadaqat made the claim in a video purportedly recorded in Russia, where he said he is currently staying.
The allegation emerged as the Bihar government announced the withdrawal of all cases registered in connection with the protests and ordered the release of those arrested during the demonstrations. According to a notification issued by the state home department, the government has decided to withdraw "all FIRs, complaints and show-cause notices issued in connection with incidents that took place before 6 am on July 26."
In the viral video circulating on social media, Sadaqat questioned why his name had been included in the case. He said he was not present at the protest in Bahadurganj on July 25 because he had been residing in Russia for the last four months. He also sought a fair investigation and urged the authorities to remove his name from the FIR.
PTI could not independently verify the authenticity of the video. Responding to the claim, Kishanganj Superintendent of Police Hari Mohan Shukla neither confirmed nor denied the allegation but said that anyone with grievances related to the protests could approach the police for redressal.
The home department also announced that all those arrested in connection with the protests would be released immediately. A total of 694 people, including nearly half who were minors, had been detained for allegedly attempting to enforce the statewide bandh called last week to protest the NEET paper leak.
Sadaqat's allegation surfaced amid the Bihar government's decision to withdraw all police cases linked to the anti-NEET paper leak protests and release those arrested in connection with the incidents.
