Former GitHub CEO Thomas Dohmke is bringing his new AI-first developer platform, Entire, to India with the aim of helping developers and businesses build software more efficiently while keeping their code infrastructure within the country. Entire has launched an India region for its Distributed Git Network, enabling developers and enterprises to host or mirror Git repositories locally. The move is expected to help organisations comply with data residency requirements while reducing latency caused by repositories hosted overseas.
Announcing the launch on X, Dohmke wrote, "Today, we are proud to be the first AI-native developer platform to offer data residency in India. Now every developer in India, and their agents, can mirror their GitHub repos and clone fast, with low latency and high rate limits, right at home."
The expansion comes as India continues to emerge as one of the world's largest developer ecosystems. Dohmke believes the country will play a central role in shaping the future of AI-assisted software development.
"We remain convinced that India is going to become the largest developer community on the planet," Dohmke told AIM. "We're super excited about bringing the capability of mirroring GitHub repositories into India and hosting repositories with Indian data residency."
Local repositories for faster development
Entire's India rollout is aimed at improving how developers and AI agents access code repositories. According to Dohmke, maintaining a local copy of repositories ensures uninterrupted access even if connectivity between regions is affected.
"If you mirror a repository, you always have a copy available," he told AIM. "If the connection between Indian data centres and the United States goes down, you still have access."
The company says its Distributed Git Network delivers significantly faster repository operations than conventional Git workflows. Entire claims repository cloning through its platform is more than three times faster than GitHub, enabling developers and AI tools to complete tasks more quickly.
The infrastructure is also designed to support AI-powered coding workloads. According to the company, the platform can handle nearly 570,000 Git clone operations per hour from a single repository and approximately 2.1 million Git pushes every hour.
Built for AI-driven software development
Dohmke founded Entire in September 2025 after stepping down as GitHub CEO. The startup emerged from stealth earlier this year after raising $60 million in seed funding.
Entire is developing a platform tailored for an AI-first software development workflow, where developers increasingly rely on AI agents for coding, testing and software management.
"The developer has become the conductor of an orchestra of many of those agents running on computers and in the cloud," Dohmke said.
The platform combines distributed Git infrastructure with a system that preserves AI coding sessions, including prompts, conversations and model outputs. Entire believes this allows developers to understand not only what code was generated but also why specific decisions were made during development.
Expanding operations in India
Alongside the India launch, Entire has introduced its Founding Builders Programme for Indian startups, enterprises and open-source developers.
Dohmke also announced that the company is strengthening its presence in the country by appointing Karthik Rameshkumar as its field CTO and plans to recruit additional remote employees across India.
According to the company, more than 90 per cent of Entire's own software has been developed with the help of AI agents, although human engineers continue to review and contribute to the codebase.
"It's not vibe-coded," Dohmke said.
