In West Bengal's South 24 Parganas district, a man suspected of raping and killing a 12-year-old girl died after being purportedly murdered on Sunday by the victim's family and locals, sparking tensions and large-scale demonstrations. An SIT has been established to look into the situation, and police have detained an accused BJP employee.

IGP Barui used a loudspeaker to address the demonstrators, urging them to end the barricade and promising that anyone connected to the crime will be taken into custody and given the worst punishment possible.
