Marvel Studios has released the first full trailer for Avengers: Doomsday, marking Robert Downey Jr.'s return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a new role as Doctor Doom instead of Iron Man. The trailer offers the first complete look at Downey wearing Doctor Doom's iconic mask, signalling a dramatic shift from his long-running portrayal of Tony Stark.
The trailer sets the stage for a high-stakes showdown as the Avengers prepare to confront Doctor Doom. It also features a surprise appearance by Chris Evans, along with brief glimpses of Letitia Wright's Black Panther, Chris Hemsworth's Thor and James Marsden's Cyclops.
In one of the trailer's standout moments, Thor urges the assembled heroes to unite, declaring, "Put aside your petty squabbles... We are going to need a miracle," as they brace for the looming battle. The footage establishes Doctor Doom as the central antagonist, with Downey Jr. portraying a character who now poses a threat to the very universe his former character once helped protect.
Another key sequence sees Chris Evans make a surprise appearance, leaving Thor visibly stunned. "It's not possible," Thor says before Evans is briefly shown wielding Mjolnir. The trailer also provides the first extended look at Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom following his brief appearance in Fantastic Four: First Steps.
Avengers: Doomsday reunites Marvel Studios with directors Joe and Anthony Russo, who return to the MCU for the first time since directing Avengers: Endgame in 2019. The screenplay has been written by Michael Waldron and Stephen McFeely.
With Doctor Doom taking centre stage and several familiar Marvel characters returning, Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to release in theatres on December 18. The trailer highlights Downey Jr.'s transformation into Doctor Doom, the Avengers' confrontation with the iconic villain and Chris Evans' surprise return as its major talking points.
