India's Sachin Siwach advanced to the Round of 16 in the men's 60kg boxing competition with a hard-earned win over Canada's Keoma Al-Ahmadieh, while swimmers Dhakshan Shashikumar and Aryan Nehra missed out on qualification for the men's 400m freestyle final at the Commonwealth Games on Saturday.
India also suffered a heavy defeat in the wheelchair women's 3x3 basketball event, going down 1-16 to Wales in their Group B clash.
Sachin advances in boxing
Sachin registered a 4-1 split-decision victory over Al-Ahmadieh after dominating the opening two rounds before withstanding a strong comeback attempt in the final round.
The Indian boxer claimed the first round on four of the five judges' scorecards and narrowly edged the second to establish a comfortable lead. Although the Canadian finished strongly, Sachin had already built enough of an advantage to secure victory and progress to the Round of 16.
He will now face England's William Hewitt in the pre-quarterfinals, with a place in the quarterfinals at stake.
Swimmers exit in heats
Indian swimmers Dhakshan Shashikumar and Aryan Nehra were unable to progress beyond the heats of the men's 400m freestyle at the Tollcross Swimming Centre.
Shashikumar finished 15th overall among 27 competitors with a timing of 3:58.09, while Nehra placed 16th after clocking 4:00.26.
Swimming in Heat 3, Shashikumar climbed to seventh midway through the race but could not maintain the pace needed to qualify for the final.
Nehra, competing in Heat 4, remained at the back of the field throughout and finished in the last position.
Wheelchair basketball defeat
India's wheelchair women's 3x3 basketball team endured a tough outing against Wales, losing 1-16 in its Group B match.
The Indian side struggled offensively, converting just one of its 12 scoring attempts, while Wales dominated the contest from start to finish.
India will aim to recover in its remaining group-stage fixtures to keep its hopes alive in the competition.
