The Election Commission has extended the timeline for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Delhi by 12 days, postponing the publication of the draft electoral roll from August 5 to August 17.
The decision follows a request submitted by the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Delhi to the Election Commission on July 14, seeking additional time to complete the revision process.
Under the revised schedule, the door-to-door verification of voters by Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will continue until August 8, extending the exercise by 10 days beyond the original deadline of July 29. The verification drive began across the national capital on June 30.
With the revised timeline, the draft electoral roll will now be published on August 17. The window for filing claims and objections has also been rescheduled and will remain open from August 17 to September 16.
The publication of the final electoral roll has likewise been deferred by 12 days, from the earlier date of October 7 to October 19.
Delhi is part of Phase 3 of the Election Commission’s nationwide Special Intensive Revision programme, which was launched on May 14. Upon completion of this phase, the exercise will have covered the entire country, with the exception of Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh.
The revised schedule for Delhi follows similar extensions announced earlier this week for Andhra Pradesh and Haryana, which are also included in Phase 3 of the revision exercise.
In separate communications issued to the Chief Electoral Officers of both states, the Election Commission extended the deadline for house-to-house verification by Booth Level Officers from July 14 to July 24.
As a result, the publication of the draft electoral rolls in Andhra Pradesh and Haryana has also been postponed from July 21 to July 31.
The Special Intensive Revision exercise is aimed at updating and verifying electoral rolls through comprehensive field verification. In recent weeks, the Election Commission has revised timelines across several states due to administrative and logistical requirements, adjusting schedules to ensure the smooth completion of the electoral roll revision process.
