Former Tamil Nadu BJP president K. Annamalai on Tuesday claimed that DMK MP TR Baalu has withdrawn the Rs 100 crore defamation lawsuit filed against him in connection with the BJP leader’s “DMK Files” allegations. Annamalai stated that he continues to stand by all the claims he made regarding the previous DMK government and certain party leaders.
In a post on X, Annamalai said the defamation suit was filed after he released information through his “DMK Files” campaign concerning the alleged assets and business interests of TR Baalu and his family.
According to Annamalai, Baalu had sought Rs 100 crore in damages over the allegations.
“TR Baalu filed a defamation case against me for publishing details of the assets and companies owned by him and his family through DMK Files and sought Rs 100 crore as compensation,” Annamalai wrote.
The former BJP state chief further stated that he eventually argued the case personally and conducted the cross-examination of Baalu himself. He added that details of the court proceedings had already entered the public domain.
Annamalai also alleged that during one of the hearings, Baalu made remarks about him in court that he described as defamatory and unsupported by evidence. As a result, Annamalai said he initiated a separate legal case against the DMK leader over those statements.
“Today, TR Baalu, of his own accord, decided to withdraw the defamation case he had filed against me. The decision to continue or withdraw the case rested entirely with him, not with me,” Annamalai said.
Reaffirming his earlier position, he stated that he continued to stand by every allegation and observation he had made regarding the previous DMK administration and certain leaders of the ruling party.
Annamalai also expressed gratitude to advocates Paul Kanagaraj, Kumaraguru and members of the BJP legal team for their assistance during the legal proceedings. He concluded his statement with the message, “Truth always triumphs.”
The development comes shortly after Annamalai announced that his recently launched “We the Leaders” movement is expected to be transformed into a political party in July. He has said the organisation aims to enrol 50 lakh members and emerge as a people-focused political alternative in Tamil Nadu, with an emphasis on governance reforms, anti-corruption measures and tackling the state’s growing drug-related challenges.
