A former government bus driver who later entered the stone business has come under police scrutiny after officials recovered around Rs 20 crore in cash and 15 kilograms of gold from his residence in West Bengal during a search operation on Wednesday.
The businessman, identified as Minar Mondal, is a stone trader from Birbhum district and is related to local businessman Tulu Mondal.
According to police sources, officers brought multiple trunks and cash-counting machines to Mondal's residence to process the large quantity of cash recovered during the raid.
Officials said the counting was still in progress and that the exact amount seized would only be confirmed after the exercise was completed, which was expected to continue until the evening.
Sources also said several kilograms of gold were recovered from the property during the operation.
Visuals from the location showed a large police deployment outside the residence as the search continued.
Police said Mondal had previously worked as a government bus driver before leaving the job a few years ago to join his relative's stone trading business.
