A student from the International Institute of Information Technology Bengaluru (IIIT-B) has secured a placement package of Rs 1.5 crore, making it one of the highest offers recorded on campus and surpassing the top packages publicly reported by several Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) during this placement season.
The offer was made to a student from the institute's Integrated MTech programme. Two other students also received annual packages exceeding Rs 1 crore, each securing offers worth Rs 1.3 crore.
The placement season reflected a growing trend across IIIT campuses, with recruiters offering increasingly competitive compensation. More than 22 students secured annual packages above Rs 60 lakh, while 27 students received offers ranging between Rs 40 lakh and Rs 60 lakh.
In total, over 110 graduates were placed with annual salaries exceeding Rs 20 lakh.
316 students graduate at IIIT Bengaluru's 26th convocation
The placement figures were announced during IIIT Bengaluru's 26th Convocation, where 316 students graduated, a batch size comparable to that of the previous year.
Among the graduates, 95 completed the Integrated Master of Technology programme, while 175 earned Master of Technology degrees. Another 32 students received Master of Science (Research) degrees, and 14 scholars were awarded PhDs.
Addressing the gathering, IIIT-B Director Debabrata Das highlighted the institute's recent work in digital public infrastructure (DPI).
He said the institute had established India's first Digital Public Infrastructure Division within an academic institution and cited the Tele-MANAS platform as one of its flagship initiatives.
According to Das, the National Tele-Mental Health Programme developed at the institute has handled more than four million calls, demonstrating the growing role of technology in expanding access to mental healthcare across the country.
Delivering the convocation address, chief guest Professor Rajat Moona of IIT Gandhinagar urged graduates to prepare for rapid technological transformation driven by artificial intelligence.
Twin brothers, 100th PhD scholar among convocation highlights
The convocation also celebrated several academic and community achievements.
Singuru Manognya received the IIIT-B Gold Medal for the MTech programme, while Subhajeet Lahiri was awarded the Institute Gold Medal for the Integrated MTech programme. Lahiri also shared the Sir M. Visvesvaraya Scholarship Award with Ketaki Srikrishna Tamhanakar.
Siddharth Kothari received both the Sitaram Jindal Gold Medal and the Late Sri N. Rama Rao Medal for Best Outgoing Student (Male).
Yukta Arvind Rajapur was named Best Outgoing Student (Female), while Institute Medals for contributions to community and professional life were presented to Sankalp Kothari and Daksh Sharma.
Twin brothers Siddharth and Sankalp Kothari, who both graduated with MTech degrees in Computer Science and Engineering, also drew attention during the ceremony. Siddharth was recognised for his academic excellence as the Best Outgoing Male Student, while Sankalp received the institute medal for his contributions to community and professional life.
The convocation also marked a significant milestone for the institute, with IIIT Bengaluru graduating its 100th PhD scholar in Computer Science and Engineering. Vikas Vazhayil, a neurosurgeon from NIMHANS, was awarded a doctorate for his research on autonomous robotic neurosurgery.
The Rs 1.5 crore placement package also compares favourably with the highest offers reported by several newer and third-generation IITs this placement season. IIT Mandi recorded a highest international package of Rs 46.7 lakh, while IIT Jodhpur reported a top package of around Rs 56 lakh for its BTech Computer Science programme.
IIT Goa reported an average package of Rs 18.85 lakh and a median package of Rs 12.67 lakh, with no publicly announced crore-plus offer.
Other newer IITs, including IIT Bhilai, IIT Dharwad, IIT Jammu and IIT Palakkad, also reported strong placement performances but have not announced a highest package matching the Rs 1.5 crore offer secured by the IIIT Bengaluru student.
