Bengaluru commuters encountered an unusual traffic disruption on Palace Road on Tuesday evening after a cobra halted traffic by remaining in the middle of the road with its hood fully spread.
The snake stayed on the road for nearly 30–40 minutes, startling motorists and passers-by and causing vehicles to slow down until the situation was brought under control.
The rare sight was captured on video and quickly went viral on social media. Sharing the clip, a user wrote, "Bengaluru traffic met its newest VIP yesterday. A Cobra on Palace Road."
Describing the incident, the user added, "Seems like the snake decided the middle of the road was the perfect spot for a 30-minute evening meditation session, complete with hood fully open and zero concern for traffic rules."
The cobra's unexpected appearance transformed a routine evening commute into an unusual wildlife encounter, with motorists waiting patiently as the reptile remained in the middle of the road. The incident also sparked humorous reactions online, with several users joking that Bengaluru had found a new traffic controller.
The post further quipped, "Police finally arrived and escorted the unexpected roadblock to safety. Only in Bengaluru can a cobra create a traffic jam without owning a BMW."
Police personnel eventually reached the spot and safely rescued the snake, ensuring that neither the reptile nor commuters were harmed. Traffic resumed shortly after the cobra was removed from the road.
The incident highlights how urban areas often intersect with natural habitats, particularly during changing weather conditions when snakes may venture into populated areas.
For Bengaluru residents, it turned into an unusual traffic jam—one caused not by vehicles or road rage, but by a cobra calmly occupying the middle of Palace Road.
