Married 72 days ago, woman falls to death in Delhi; family accuses murder

A 28-year-old newly married woman died after allegedly falling from a building in Delhi's Lodhi Colony on Saturday evening. Her family has accused her husband and in-laws of murdering her.

The deceased, Akriti Sutar, was a resident of Pushp Vihar. According to Delhi Police, she was found seriously injured after reportedly falling from the NDMC Flats at Palika Kunj on July 4, within the jurisdiction of the Lodhi Colony police station. She was rushed to AIIMS Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.

Akriti had married on April 24, 2026, less than three months before the incident. She worked as a sales executive in Chhatarpur and had gone to work on the day of her death.

Her family said they spoke to her on Saturday evening, during which she informed them that she had left her office. Soon afterwards, her phone became unreachable. While trying to locate her, they were informed by the Lodhi Colony police that she had died after falling from the rooftop of a building.

The family has rejected the possibility of suicide and alleged that Akriti was killed by her husband and in-laws. They described her as a strong woman and said she could not have taken her own life.

According to the family, Akriti had married the son of a Section Officer in the Labour Department, whose family resides in government flats in Pushp Vihar.

Delhi Police said proceedings under Section 196 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) have been initiated, and the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) has been informed to conduct the inquest.

Police added that all aspects of the case are being examined and that the investigation is ongoing.
