She kissed me against my will: IPS trainee charged with harassment makes an attempt at suicide

An IPS trainee at the National Police Academy in Hyderabad, who is facing harassment allegations from a fellow probationer, has been admitted to hospital after a suspected suicide attempt, officials said.

In a purported suicide note, trainee Uday Krishna Reddy claimed that he had been in a romantic relationship with the complainant and alleged that she wanted to continue their intimate relationship even after getting married.

According to sources, Reddy went to a friend's house in Hyderabad on Sunday evening, where he is suspected to have consumed poison. However, officials have not yet confirmed whether it was an attempt to end his life.

The incident comes just days after a 30-year-old fellow IPS probationer filed a complaint accusing Reddy of stalking, assault, criminal intimidation and secretly recording a private video without her consent. She alleged that the incidents took place on several occasions during June.

Acting on the complaint, Hyderabad Police registered a case against Reddy under various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and relevant sections of the Information Technology Act.

In her complaint, the woman alleged that Reddy sent her sexually explicit and abusive WhatsApp messages and made insulting remarks about her in front of fellow probationers. She also claimed that he repeatedly accused her of having a relationship with another trainee, pressured her to admit it and verbally abused her.

She further alleged that Reddy forcibly took her mobile phone, made her unlock it, went through her private conversations and later took the phone to his room after forcing her to reveal its password.

The complainant also alleged that, in one incident, Reddy wrongfully confined her in his room, assaulted her, pulled her hair, tried to strangle her and held a knife to her neck while stopping her from leaving. She claimed he also threw packets of condoms at her during the altercation. In a separate incident on July 10, she alleged that he attempted to touch her inappropriately.

Among the gravest allegations, the probationer claimed that Reddy secretly recorded an intimate video of her without her consent and later sent it to her husband in an attempt to blackmail her. She also accused him of spreading false and defamatory claims to tarnish her reputation.

'WE WERE IN A RELATIONSHIP, SHE INSISTED ON INTIMACY'

In his two-page suicide note, however, Reddy rejected all the allegations. He claimed that the woman had repeatedly come to his room against his wishes and alleged that they continued to share a physical and emotional relationship even after her marriage.

"I, Uday Krishna Reddy, and (woman) have been in a relationship since June 2025. Even after her marriage, we continued to be in a relationship, physically and emotionally. She repeatedly asked me on WhatsApp to open my room and came there herself. She initiated the fight. I recorded the incidents on my phone as evidence. I only reacted in self-defence, and there is video proof," he wrote.

Reddy further claimed, "On 9.7.2016, she came to my room saying she had an intense sexual urge. She kissed and hugged me without my consent. I recorded it as proof and later sent the video to her husband because I had repeatedly asked her not to come to my room."

The IPS trainee also alleged that the woman later "manipulated everything" and falsely accused him of assault. He claimed the complaint was filed after she was influenced by her friends and sought action against the woman, her husband and two others.

Police said the allegations made by both sides are being investigated and that further legal action will depend on the evidence gathered during the probe.

Reddy remains under medical observation in hospital. Sources said officials from the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy have also visited the hospital to meet doctors and assess his condition.
