What we now know about singer Bismil's alleged Rs 5 crore extortion bid from a mobster

Delhi-based singer Mohammad Asif, popularly known by his stage name Bismil, has alleged that he received extortion threats demanding ₹5 crore from alleged Haryana gangster Deepak Nandal, prompting the Delhi Police Special Cell to register an FIR and launch an investigation.

According to Bismil's complaint, the threats were made through calls and messages originating from a Portuguese phone number. He alleged that the intimidation began in April and continued into May, with the caller threatening to kill him if the extortion demand was not met.

The complaint states that Bismil's manager first received multiple threatening messages in April demanding ₹5 crore. A complaint was subsequently filed with the Haryana Police, which registered an FIR.

The threats allegedly escalated in May while Bismil was at his residence in Delhi. His manager reportedly continued to receive repeated calls and text messages from the same Portuguese number, with the caller allegedly reiterating the extortion demand and issuing death threats.

The Delhi Police Special Cell has now taken over the matter, registered an FIR, and initiated an investigation. Authorities have also provided security to the singer while the probe continues.
