A shocking double murder has been reported from Madhya Pradesh’s Indore, where a man allegedly killed his wife and 11-year-old daughter following a domestic dispute before dumping their bodies in a pond. He also allegedly threw his eight-year-old son into the water, but the child survived by clinging to bushes and later informed villagers, helping police uncover the crime.
The incident occurred late Monday night in Jhalariya village, under the jurisdiction of the Kanadia police station. After receiving information from the boy, police and the State Disaster Emergency Response Force (SDERF) launched a search operation through the night. The bodies of the woman and her daughter were eventually recovered from Hingonia pond.
According to police, the eight-year-old stopped a patrolling team and told them that his father had assaulted his mother and sister before throwing them into the pond. He also said that his father had thrown him into the water. The child survived by pretending to drown while holding onto bushes near the pond. He later made his way back to the village and informed local residents.
Police teams immediately reached the area based on the child’s statement. However, darkness and limited visibility made the initial search difficult. The SDERF team was subsequently brought in and conducted an overnight operation, during which the bodies were recovered. The victims were identified as 32-year-old Anita and her daughter Mahi, aged around 11.
POLICE SUSPECT JEALOUSY OVER INFIDELITY
The accused has been identified as Sunil Chauhan, a driver originally from Dewas. Police said the couple had reportedly been involved in frequent domestic disputes.
Investigators suspect Chauhan had become suspicious of his wife after noticing several contacts on her mobile phone and allegedly believing that she was having inappropriate conversations with other people. The couple reportedly had another argument on Monday evening.
Police suspect Chauhan took his wife and children to the pond during the dispute. He allegedly strangled Anita using the end of her sari before stabbing her with a knife. He then allegedly pushed Mahi into the deeper part of the pond and threw his son into the water.
ACCUSED DETAINED AS INVESTIGATION CONTINUES
Police said Chauhan allegedly attempted to take his own life following the incident but was taken into custody before he could do so.
A case has been registered in connection with the deaths and the alleged attempt to drown the children. The accused is being interrogated as investigators work to establish the precise sequence of events and determine the motive behind the killings.
The eight-year-old’s account has become a crucial part of the investigation. His decision to hold onto bushes, survive the alleged drowning attempt and then seek help from villagers enabled police to reach the pond and recover the bodies.
