The shocking family suicide case in Maharashtra’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar has taken a new turn after videos recorded by 48-year-old Sangita Chandgude surfaced following her death. In one video, she spoke about making sacrifices only for people who genuinely value them.
Sangita died along with her husband Murlidhar and their 18-year-old son Kunal after all three fell from a hill in Waluj on Friday. A day before the incident, she had posted a one-minute video on YouTube in which she said people should give their love and sacrifices only to those who appreciate them.
In another video that emerged after the deaths, Sangita appeared distressed and accused some relatives, including her husband's sister, of mentally harassing the family, creating conflicts between Kunal and his father, and attempting to take control of their property.
She alleged that some relatives repeatedly abused the family, created misunderstandings between siblings and tried to break apart their brother’s household. She also claimed that when they failed to do so, they sought a share of the family property.
Sangita, who had more than 29,000 YouTube followers, regularly posted motivational content and videos featuring her son. Police are now examining the videos to establish their authenticity and determine whether the alleged family disputes, harassment and property-related issues contributed to the tragedy.
IPHONE DISPUTE WAS INITIALLY SEEN AS THE TRIGGER
Police had earlier said that an argument over Kunal's demand for a new iPhone may have preceded the incident. The family was reportedly facing financial difficulties, while Murlidhar, who worked as a driver, was the sole earning member.
After his father refused to purchase the phone, Kunal allegedly became upset and went to a hill in the Tisgaon area around 10 am on Friday.
His parents followed him and attempted to convince him to return. Police, firefighters and villagers also joined the rescue effort, with the operation continuing for nearly three hours.
Around 1 pm, Murlidhar approached Kunal in an attempt to persuade him to come back. Police said Kunal then jumped from the hill, and his father tried to grab him but lost his balance and fell as well.
Sangita reportedly witnessed her husband and son falling and subsequently jumped from the same location. All three died.
The newly surfaced videos have given investigators another possible line of inquiry. Police are examining the family's personal, financial and property-related circumstances alongside the earlier account of the iPhone dispute to determine what ultimately led to the deaths.
