Following the release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has confirmed that a fifth Spider-Man film is in the works, signalling the next chapter in Peter Parker's journey. Producer Amy Pascal also expressed hope that director Destin Daniel Cretton will return to helm the sequel.
When asked about Spider-Man 5, Feige told Variety, "There are always plans." While Marvel has already begun looking ahead, he suggested that Tom Holland will be taking a break before returning as the web-slinger.
"But right now, he's (Tom) going to rest after that global tour. He and Zendaya are going to take a good and restful victory lap, which they very much deserve," Feige said.
Speaking to Deadline about Cretton's future with the franchise, Pascal said, "If we have our way, he certainly will be," indicating that Marvel is keen to have him direct the next instalment.
The latest update on Spider-Man 5 comes as Marvel begins planning the next phase of Peter Parker's story, with Pascal openly backing Cretton's return behind the camera.
Alongside Tom Holland and Zendaya, Spider-Man: Brand New Day features Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Michael Mando and Mark Ruffalo in key roles. The film also introduces Sadie Sink, Tramell Tillman, Liza Colón-Zayas and Marvin Jones II to the franchise.
The film was co-written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, with Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal serving as producers.
In its review, India Today wrote: "For years, Tom Holland's Spider-Man has been defined by the people around him – Tony Stark, the Avengers, even the multiverse. Brand New Day finally allows Peter Parker to carry the weight of his own story. It may take a little while to find its footing, but once it does, it delivers some of the franchise's most inventive action, its most emotionally honest moments and a reminder that Spider-Man has always been at his best when the mask comes off."
