Chumbak trailer: crazy neighborhood comedy starring Neena Gupta and Deven Bhojani

The trailer for Chumbak has been released, introducing a feel-good family comedy set in a vibrant Mumbai neighbourhood where five families are closely connected. The series stars Neena Gupta, Deven Bhojani, Sumeet Raghvan, Sandeepa Dhar, Arjun Bijlani and Helly Shah, among others, and will premiere on Netflix on September 10.

Set in Chumbak Colony in Chembur, the show follows five neighbouring families and 10 friends whose lives are deeply intertwined. The trailer combines family drama, marital conflicts, neighbourhood gossip and a series of comic misunderstandings.

Chumbak Colony is portrayed as a place where the distinction between neighbours and family members is almost nonexistent. The residents refer to one another as parents and children, highlighting a community where everyone knows about everyone else’s lives and readily gets involved.

The trailer introduces the setting with the line, “Chumbak Colony, Chembur. Paanch padosi, dus dost, hazaar hungamein” (Five neighbours, 10 friends, a thousand shenanigans).

The residents include a successful model, a celebrity and a cardiac surgeon, but their professional identities appear to become secondary once neighbourhood issues begin creating chaos.

Several complicated relationships form the heart of the story. Rajni and Kuku, played by Neena Gupta and Deven Bhojani, are a married couple whose frequent arguments provide much of the humour. Another couple, Dharmendra and Kiran, portrayed by Sumeet Raghvan and Sandeepa Dhar, share a more unconventional relationship.

The trailer takes a more dramatic turn when one family reveals that a marriage is heading towards divorce. A character announces that his son wants a divorce, before Rajni reveals that she has also decided to end her marriage.

“I’m divorcing your uncle. And that is final,” she declares.

Rajni then embraces the decision, saying, “I’m free. I’m going to live a little for myself too!”

As expected, the rest of the neighbourhood quickly gets involved, turning the characters’ private relationship problems into a collective affair.
