Anthropic is expanding its footprint in India by enabling customer data to remain within the country. The AI company has announced that Claude will soon support in-country inference in India through Amazon Bedrock, allowing AI requests from Indian customers to be processed on servers located domestically. The move is designed to help businesses in regulated sectors adopt generative AI while meeting data residency and compliance requirements.
"Bringing Claude inference to India is a turning point for enterprise AI in this country. India's banks, insurers, telecoms, public and government agencies steward the data of a billion people. When that data can stay in India, AI moves from pilots into the systems that matter most. Adding in-country inference marks a significant step forward in what we are building here—a growing local team, strong performance in Indian languages, and partnerships that put this technology to work for India," said Irina Ghose, Managing Director, India, Anthropic.
According to the company, India has emerged as one of Claude's largest markets, with developers and enterprises increasingly relying on the AI model for advanced applications. Anthropic said one of the biggest demands from Indian organisations has been local access to Claude, particularly as businesses face stricter data governance requirements.
Local data processing to boost AI adoption
The feature will be offered through Amazon Bedrock, Amazon Web Services' platform for building and deploying generative AI applications. Customers using Claude through the India endpoint will have their requests processed entirely on infrastructure located within the country instead of overseas data centres.
The capability is expected to be especially useful for industries such as banking, insurance, telecom and government, where organisations operate under stringent data protection and regulatory norms. Anthropic believes in-country inference will give these institutions greater confidence to move beyond pilot projects and deploy AI across critical business operations.
"India is at an inflection point in its AI journey, and institutions from banks to government agencies are ready to harness frontier AI at scale. With Anthropic's Claude now available for in-country inferencing through Amazon Bedrock, they can deploy it on the same trusted infrastructure they already run their most critical workloads on, unlocking new possibilities in citizen services and digital transformation," said Sandeep Dutta, President, AWS India and South Asia.
Claude deployments through Amazon Bedrock will also include enterprise-grade audit trails and access controls to help organisations meet governance and compliance requirements before rolling out AI applications.
Banks, IT firms and startups expand Claude adoption
Anthropic also highlighted Claude's growing adoption across India. Axis Bank is using the model to enhance engineering productivity, while NPCI is building its agentic AI platform, AiNxt, using Claude. IndusInd Bank is developing an AI-powered enterprise knowledge platform, and Godrej Industries has integrated Claude into software development, business analysis and knowledge management workflows.
India's IT services companies are also increasing their use of the model. TCS is rolling out Claude to 50,000 employees, Infosys is integrating it into its Topaz AI platform while establishing a dedicated Anthropic Centre of Excellence, and Cognizant, LTIMindtree and LTTS are embedding Claude into enterprise solutions across multiple industries.
Consumer-focused companies are adopting the AI model as well. Swiggy has incorporated Claude into some of its services, Instamart is using it to help customers browse more than 40,000 products using natural language, and Invideo relies on Claude to support creators in over 190 countries.
Anthropic said the launch of in-country inference is part of its broader expansion strategy in India. Since opening its Bengaluru office earlier this year, the company has grown its local workforce, strengthened partnerships and continued improving Claude's performance in Indian languages. With customer data now able to remain within India, Anthropic expects more organisations to shift from AI experimentation to large-scale deployment.
