Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday praised India’s 7.8% GDP growth in the first quarter of financial year 2026-27, describing it as an “exemplary” achievement delivered despite global economic uncertainty, oil price fluctuations and supply-chain disruptions.
“India’s exemplary GDP growth of 7.8% during Q1 of FY 2026-27 is a herculean feat,” Modi said in a post on X. He attributed the strong performance to the collective strength of Indians, despite the challenges affecting the global economy.
“Doomsayers were doomed and India bloomed yet again,” the Prime Minister added.

Modi’s remarks came after India registered 7.8% growth in the April-June quarter, highlighting the economy’s resilience despite mounting external pressures.
He pointed to fluctuations in oil prices and disruptions to global supply chains as some of the challenges confronting the economy during the quarter, while also noting the continuing uncertainty in international markets.
According to the Prime Minister, the latest growth figures reflected the “collective strength” of the Indian people.
Modi is currently undertaking a four-day tour of Central Asia. He arrived in Uzbekistan on August 29 for a bilateral visit at the invitation of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
He is also attending the two-day Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Kyrgyzstan, where Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Xi Jinping and more than a dozen other leaders are participating.
The SCO summit is taking place as member nations look to deepen regional cooperation and expand the grouping’s influence amid changing geopolitical and economic conditions worldwide.
