Everything you should know about Celebrity MasterChef Tamil, which Samantha hosts

Actor Samantha is set to headline Celebrity MasterChef Tamil, a reality show that draws from the globally popular MasterChef format while giving it a distinctly Tamil identity. The programme will centre on regional flavours, familiar celebrity faces and the unique chemistry of Tamil entertainment.

According to a press release, Celebrity MasterChef Tamil will feature some of the biggest names from Tamil entertainment competing in demanding cooking challenges, unexpected twists and high-pressure culinary tasks. The celebrities will have to create dishes that not only meet the challenge requirements but also appeal to viewers. The makers said the show will bring together celebrity culture, food and competition while maintaining a strong local flavour.

The show will be a major entertainment offering on Sony VIZHA and will also be available through Sony LIV and other digital platforms. Viewers will additionally get exclusive short-form content offering a closer look at the celebrities, their cooking journeys, challenges and memorable moments from the kitchen.

Speaking about the programme, Samantha said she was extremely excited to finally announce it. She described Celebrity MasterChef Tamil as something completely different from anything she had previously done, which was also what made the project impossible for her to turn down.

She said food has a unique ability to bring people together, create memories and reveal aspects of a person that cameras do not normally capture. Samantha added that she was particularly looking forward to seeing popular Tamil celebrities enter the kitchen, take risks, make mistakes, surprise themselves and compete with unexpected levels of enthusiasm.

She chose not to reveal the identities of the contestants, joking that revealing them would take away some of the fun. Samantha said she was looking forward to audiences experiencing what the team has prepared with Sony VIZHA.

Recent developments

The announcement comes shortly after Samantha confirmed that she and filmmaker-husband Raj Nidimoru are expecting their first child. She shared the news during the success meet for her latest film, Maa Inti Bangaaram, in Hyderabad, where the 39-year-old actor also revealed that she would be taking a break from work and going on maternity leave.

Speaking at the event, Samantha said she would take another short break before returning to work and acknowledged that she now needed to take maternity leave. She added that she was very happy about the decision.

Her confirmation came after several days of speculation sparked by videos from the film's success celebrations, in which fans noticed that she appeared to have a visible baby bump while wearing a white T-shirt. A source close to India Today had earlier indicated that she was expected to give birth towards the end of the year.

Maa Inti Bangaaram has reportedly crossed Rs 50 crore in worldwide earnings and marked Samantha's return to the big screen following Kushi in 2023.
