Mumbai is set to see a significant increase in tabela milk prices, with city milk producers deciding to raise rates by Rs 9 per litre from September 1, 2026. The price increase comes just ahead of the festive season and is expected to put additional pressure on households that regularly buy fresh dairy farm milk.
Following the hike, tabela milk in Mumbai will cost Rs 102 per litre, compared with the current price of Rs 93.
NEW MILK PRICES FROM SEPTEMBER 1
The revised prices will take effect from September 1, 2026, and remain in place until February 28, 2027.
Milk producers attributed the increase to the rising cost of dairy cattle along with a substantial increase in spending on animal feed and fodder.
WHY ARE TABELA MILK PRICES RISING?
Producers said operating dairy farms has become considerably more expensive in recent months, making it difficult to maintain the existing price of Rs 93 per litre.
The cost of various types of animal feed, including grains, has increased by as much as 25%. Rising prices of fodder and oil cakes have also contributed to the higher overall cost of producing milk.
According to producers, the increase in input costs left them with little choice but to revise milk prices.
IMPACT ON MUMBAI HOUSEHOLDS
The Rs 9-per-litre increase is expected to have a direct impact on household expenses, especially for families that rely on tabela milk for their everyday needs.
Coming shortly before the festive season, the increase is likely to add to the financial pressure on Mumbai residents already dealing with higher living costs. From September 1, consumers buying tabela milk in the city will pay Rs 102 per litre, up from Rs 93 currently.
