Actor Hrithik Roshan has responded to the viral "Sorry Hrithik" trend, urging people to rely on facts rather than social media narratives. Reacting to a post by influencer Freddy Birdy, the actor made it clear that he was not swayed by the sudden outpouring of support linked to the renewed discussion around his long-running dispute with Kangana Ranaut.
The ongoing exchange between Gen Z protesters and actor-politician Kangana Ranaut following the student protests has triggered a wave of memes, online trolling and resurfaced videos involving the actor. Amid the debate, several social media users revisited Kangana's widely publicised legal battle with Hrithik Roshan, giving rise to the "We need to apologise to Hrithik Roshan" trend.
The trend gathered pace after Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) spokesperson Saurav Das responded to Kangana's personal remarks. He said, "My friends were texting me and asking, 'Why is she after your life?' One of them even said I looked a little like a young Hrithik Roshan. That's what my friends told me. I was pleasantly surprised. Why would someone like her target someone like me?"
His comments quickly went viral, with many users drawing comparisons to the highly publicised legal dispute between Hrithik and Kangana in 2016. Influencer Freddy Birdy also shared a post on Instagram stating, "The world owes an apology to Hrithik Roshan," which prompted a response from the actor.
Commenting on the post, Hrithik wrote, "My friend, siding with 'A' just cause you don't like 'B' anymore is a small part of the larger systemic issue plaguing our society."
He further added, "I'll wait, for when the context to it is the right one, and motivated by facts. That would be fair. I'll wait. But then again, who cares anymore right?"
While many online discussions have revisited the 2016 controversy between Hrithik and Kangana, during which Hrithik initiated multiple legal proceedings, including complaints alleging stalking and harassment as well as a defamation suit, the actor's latest remarks suggest that he still believes the matter should be viewed through the lens of evidence rather than public opinion.
The dispute began after Kangana claimed that she and Hrithik had been in a relationship, an allegation the actor consistently denied. The disagreement later escalated into a prolonged legal battle that unfolded in the public domain.
As part of the investigation, Hrithik submitted evidence, including his passport and electronic devices, while Kangana did not hand over her laptop and iPad, stating that both had been damaged by water. In 2021, investigators filed a closure (Nil) report, citing a lack of evidence.
With his latest comments, Hrithik urged people not to reduce the episode to a viral social media trend, reiterating that he would rather wait for facts to emerge than allow online discourse to shape the narrative.
