Infosys said on Friday that Lax Gopisetty, head of its subsidiary Infosys Public Services, has been unreachable while visiting Nepal on a personal trip following the devastating flash floods. The company said its immediate focus was on locating him, establishing contact and confirming that he was safe.
In a statement, Infosys confirmed that Gopisetty, who was travelling in the region for personal reasons, could not currently be contacted. The company said it was coordinating with relevant authorities to obtain information and make contact with him, while staying in touch with his family and providing them with all possible assistance.
“We remain in close communication with the family and are providing all necessary support during this difficult time. Our thoughts are with Lax and all those affected by this tragedy,” Infosys said.
The company also expressed deep sorrow over the destruction caused by the floods in Nepal and the loss of lives. Infosys Public Services, the Infosys subsidiary led by Gopisetty, primarily serves public-sector clients in the US and Canada.
The Ministry of External Affairs said on Friday that around 320 Indians were still missing, while another 400 were stranded on the Chinese side after the flash floods along the Nepal-Tibet border. The ministry said India was prepared to provide Kathmandu with all possible assistance in dealing with the aftermath.
According to the MEA, 153 Indian nationals stranded on the Chinese side had safely crossed into Nepal. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said 21 Indians reached New Delhi on Friday afternoon, a day after travelling from the flood-hit areas of Nepal to Kathmandu.
Gopisetty's profile on the Infosys website states that he works with public-sector organisations on strategy, technology, operations and transformation, helping agencies advance their missions while overseeing the company's strategy and execution.
Before taking charge of Infosys Public Services, he served as Global Vice President at Infosys and headed its Business Applications and Digital Workspace Service division. In that role, he helped expand the business across the Americas, Europe and Asia.
Before joining Infosys, Gopisetty worked as a Managing Director at Accenture, where he led part of its Health and Public Services business in North America. His Infosys profile also notes that he helped develop high-growth practices at BearingPoint, IBM, PwC and HCL.
Infosys said it continues to work with relevant agencies to gather information and re-establish contact with Gopisetty. Meanwhile, the MEA is coordinating efforts related to the broader impact of the floods, with hundreds of Indian nationals still missing or stranded across the affected region.
