The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced that the UGC-NET June 2026 examination for three subjects — English, Commerce and Sociology — will be conducted again after complaints were received about multiple errors in the question papers.
Following the complaints, NTA set up a committee to review the issues reported in the English, Commerce and Sociology papers.
The committee identified several factual, typographical and translation-related errors across the three papers. These included incorrect spellings of prominent scholars’ names, distorted book titles, mistakes in question stems, grammatical errors, gender and number agreement issues, punctuation mistakes and non-standard terms used for established concepts.
The committee also found that a considerable number of questions had been repeated from previous examinations.
UGC-NET 2026: RE-EXAMINATION SCHEDULE
Considering the extent of the errors, the committee recommended conducting the three papers again to ensure that candidates receive a fair and error-free examination.
NTA has accepted the recommendation and announced the following schedule:

NTA said question papers with errors of this magnitude fail to meet the required standards of accuracy and fairness. It added that the issues could not be sufficiently resolved simply by removing questions during the answer-key challenge process.
NO ADDITIONAL EXAMINATION FEE
Candidates appearing for the re-examination in English, Commerce and Sociology will not have to pay any additional examination fee.
Information regarding examination cities, centres and admit cards will be released separately on the official NTA website.
RESULTS FOR 84 SUBJECTS TO PROCEED AS SCHEDULED
The re-examination of the three affected subjects will not impact the processing of results for the other 84 subjects.
NTA said results for the 84 subjects for which the Answer Key Challenge had already been conducted will be announced according to schedule.
The allocation of JRF seats and the issuance of e-certificates for eligibility for Assistant Professor positions and admission to PhD programmes for candidates in these 84 subjects will also continue without being affected by the re-examination.
