Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Sunday laid the foundation stones for 53 development projects worth Rs 214.12 crore in unauthorised colonies spread across five assembly constituencies under the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan campaign.
The projects are expected to benefit nearly 1.75 lakh residents.
The development works will be undertaken in Kirari, Bawana, Mundka, Narela and Nangloi Jat, with an emphasis on upgrading basic civic services and infrastructure in unauthorised colonies that have faced persistent infrastructure shortages.
The projects include construction and improvement of roads, drains, sewerage systems and drainage facilities.
Speaking at the event, Gupta said development activities were now being carried out in a planned manner in areas that had struggled with basic infrastructure issues for years. She said roads, drains, sewerage and drainage were fundamental rights of citizens and added that the government was working to ensure development benefits reached every part of Delhi.
According to a statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office, the 53 projects will cover 1,062 roads and lanes across 27 unauthorised colonies. The work will include the development of approximately 89.82 km of roads and 147.69 km of drainage networks.
Kirari will receive the largest allocation, with 27 projects worth Rs 105.51 crore spread across 14 unauthorised colonies.
The works in Kirari will cover 640 roads and lanes, along with 50.71 km of roads and 101.42 km of drainage infrastructure. Bawana will see nine projects worth Rs 38.83 crore, while five projects worth Rs 22.05 crore are planned for Mundka. Narela will receive four projects costing Rs 14.48 crore, and Nangloi Jat will have eight projects worth Rs 33.25 crore.
The government said the proposed stormwater drainage systems would improve water discharge and help reduce waterlogging in the affected areas.
It also said the construction of paved roads and lanes would improve connectivity within the localities and reduce dust caused by damaged or unpaved surfaces as the projects are implemented across the five constituencies.
