The 78th Primetime Emmy Awards will take place on Monday, September 14, at the Peacock Theatre at LA Live in Los Angeles, California. Law & Order: Special Victims Unit star Mariska Hargitay will serve as the host of the ceremony.
In the US, the main awards ceremony will begin at 8 pm ET/5 pm PT and air live on NBC. The event will also be available to stream on Peacock, NBCUniversal’s streaming service.
Emmys 2026: When and where to watch in India
For audiences in India, the ceremony will take place during the early hours of Tuesday, September 15.
Red carpet coverage will begin at 4.30 am IST, with the main awards ceremony scheduled for 5.30 am IST. The Emmys will stream live on JioHotstar in India, while those who miss the live broadcast can watch it later on demand.
Because of the early-morning schedule, Indian viewers will need to tune in early to see the winners announced. The red carpet will also feature celebrity arrivals, fashion highlights, interviews and reactions from nominees.
Who is hosting the Emmys?
Mariska Hargitay will take charge as host of this year’s Primetime Emmy Awards. She is best known for portraying Olivia Benson on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, a role that has made her one of television’s most recognisable stars.
Hargitay is also an Emmy winner. Her selection as host comes as NBC celebrates its 100th anniversary.
The ceremony will have several prominent presenters, including Zendaya, Florence Pugh, Jon Hamm, Amy Poehler, Sally Field, Keke Palmer, David Harbour, Macaulay Culkin, Dan Levy, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Rachel Sennott.
The broadcast will also feature special anniversary tributes. Buffy the Vampire Slayer will be honoured on its 30th anniversary, with Sarah Michelle Gellar and David Boreanaz participating. Kate Jackson, Cheryl Ladd and Jaclyn Smith will also appear as part of a 50th anniversary tribute to Charlie’s Angels.
Which shows are leading the Emmy nominations?
The Pitt tops this year’s nominations with 25 nods, followed by Hacks with 24, Widow's Bay with 19 and Apple’s Pluribus with 18 nominations.
The Pitt is considered one of the frontrunners for Outstanding Drama Series after taking home four awards at the Creative Arts Emmys. Its rivals include Pluribus, Slow Horses, The Testaments and The White Lotus.
The comedy categories are also expected to be tightly fought. Hacks has earned a record 24 nominations in the comedy categories, while Widow's Bay has boosted its chances after securing eight wins at the Creative Arts Emmys.
Several potential milestones will also be worth watching. Jean Smart could enter Emmy history by winning her fifth consecutive Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series award for Hacks. Meanwhile, Harrison Ford is nominated for his first Emmy for Shrinking.
