Amazon India has announced the creation of more than 1.6 lakh seasonal employment opportunities across the country ahead of the upcoming festive season, when demand is expected to rise. The opportunities have been generated across 400 cities, covering metropolitan areas as well as Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities.
The seasonal workforce will support Amazon’s e-commerce and quick commerce operations, handling tasks such as picking, packing, shipping and delivering customer orders during the peak festive period.
OPPORTUNITIES CREATED ACROSS 400 CITIES
Amazon said the seasonal roles include both direct and indirect employment across its nationwide operations network. Cities including Varanasi, Kochi, Jalandhar, Ghaziabad, Ranchi, Salem and Gorakhpur are among the locations where these opportunities have been created.
The company has also generated seasonal roles for thousands of women and people with disabilities.
Amazon said most of the seasonal workforce has already been onboarded ahead of the festive period. The new associates have also begun receiving training for their respective responsibilities.
SEASONAL WORKERS TO RECEIVE SAFETY AND WELFARE BENEFITS
According to Amazon, seasonal associates will receive access to the company’s safety and welfare initiatives and benefits, similar to its other employees.
These benefits include a safe and supportive workplace, along with safety-related, financial and social security provisions.
Under its Samridhi programme, Amazon will also assist associates joining its operations network with registration on the e-Shram portal and help them access various government welfare and social security schemes.
Abhinav Singh, Vice President – Operations, Amazon India, APAC, Middle East, Africa and Turkiye, said the company is focused on ensuring fast and dependable deliveries to customers across every pin code in India during the festive season.
He said Amazon has created more than 1.6 lakh seasonal opportunities across its operations network to handle the expected surge in demand, adding that the additional workforce will strengthen the company’s fulfilment and logistics capabilities during the busy period.
Singh also noted that several seasonal associates continue working with Amazon even after the festive season, while some return to the company each year for seasonal employment.
AMAZON'S EXTENSIVE DELIVERY NETWORK
Amazon India operates a nationwide fulfilment and delivery network that supports more than 1.7 million sellers across the country.
Its infrastructure includes fulfilment centres spread across 15 states, providing over 43 million cubic feet of storage capacity for seller inventory. The company also operates sortation centres across 19 states and has nearly 2,000 Amazon-operated and partner delivery stations.
In addition, Amazon’s delivery network includes around 28,000 Hub delivery partners and thousands of Amazon Flex partners who help deliver orders across India.
