The 2026 US Open moves into its second week on Sunday, September 6, with the fourth-round matches taking place at Flushing Meadows. The round of 16 includes several of the tournament’s leading contenders, including defending champions Aryna Sabalenka and Carlos Alcaraz, who will begin their campaigns for a place in the quarter-finals.
Women’s top seed Sabalenka will continue her title defence against American Taylor Townsend. The Belarusian is aiming for a third successive US Open championship and has maintained an impressive level throughout the tournament. Townsend, meanwhile, will look to use the support of the home crowd to secure a spot in the last eight.
Alcaraz will also meet an American opponent, with the second seed taking on 20th seed Tommy Paul at Arthur Ashe Stadium. The defending champion is pursuing an eighth Grand Slam title, but faces a tough challenge against Paul, who has overcome a difficult run to make it to the fourth round.
The day’s schedule also includes a number of high-profile contests. American eighth seed Ben Shelton will meet Stefanos Tsitsipas, while 2021 champion Daniil Medvedev takes on 11th seed Frances Tiafoe. In the women’s draw, third seed Jessica Pegula faces 16th seed Sorana Cirstea, while Emma Navarro and Anna Kalinskaya will battle for a place in the quarter-finals.
As the competition reaches its second week, the stakes become increasingly high, with the remaining players fighting for a place among the final eight. Fourth-round matches will be played across Arthur Ashe Stadium, Louis Armstrong Stadium and Grandstand.
