Ajay Devgn has confirmed that Drishyam 3 will mark the end of the popular franchise, with the actor saying he would rather conclude the story on a high than extend it unnecessarily. At the film’s trailer launch, Ajay also revealed that he wants Mohanlal, who stars in the original Malayalam Drishyam films, to watch the third Hindi instalment.
Speaking at the trailer launch, Ajay said finding a story that could logically take the franchise forward after Drishyam 2 was a significant challenge. He also praised director Abhishek Pathak for creating a screenplay that ultimately convinced the team to bring the story to a conclusion.
Ajay explained that deciding to make another sequel was difficult because the narrative needed to pick up exactly where the previous film ended while retaining the suspense, twists and intrigue associated with the franchise.
He said the concept for the third film eventually came from Abhishek, who subsequently spent nearly two-and-a-half years developing the screenplay with a team of writers.
According to Ajay, the final script was strong enough to continue the franchise while also offering a natural ending to the story. He said the team ultimately felt it was preferable to conclude the franchise on a high instead of trying to prolong it.
Ajay added that Abhishek has evolved considerably as a filmmaker since Drishyam and has done a “fabulous job” both in writing the film and bringing the story to life on screen.
Ajay Devgn wants Mohanlal to watch Drishyam 3
Ajay also discussed the connection between the Hindi Drishyam films and the original Malayalam franchise starring Mohanlal.
The actor revealed that the Hindi Drishyam 3 has a completely different screenplay from Mohanlal’s Drishyam 3. He noted that although the second Hindi film was partly inspired by the original Malayalam movie, the two franchises are now following separate storylines.
Ajay said he is eager to show the new film to Mohanlal, whom he affectionately referred to as “Lal sir”. He said he would be delighted if Mohanlal and his team watched the film, adding that he was “dying to show them the film”.

The first two films focused largely on Vijay’s ability to remain several steps ahead of the authorities, while Drishyam 3 is set to introduce another chapter in his story.
With the makers officially positioning the third instalment as the conclusion, the film is expected to bring Vijay Salgaonkar’s long-running journey to a definitive end.
