Retired Indian Air Force Group Captain Amit Kumar Gupta, a veteran of the 1999 Kargil War, was allegedly assaulted with an iron rod by a parking attendant in Gurugram on Thursday night, sustaining serious injuries.
According to Gupta’s complaint, the incident occurred around 8 pm after he arrived at Magnum Global Park in his car, having dropped his family at a nearby restaurant.
The Operation Safed Sagar veteran alleged that parking staff repeatedly sent him between the valet area, basement and multi-level parking before ultimately refusing to allow him to park his vehicle.
The situation reportedly turned violent when Gupta tried to reverse his car. A parking attendant allegedly struck the vehicle with an iron rod, apparently attempting to smash its front windshield. When Gupta got out and objected, the attendant allegedly attacked him with the rod.
Gupta said one strike hit his head while another injured his arm, causing significant bleeding. His complaint also alleged that security guards and other parking employees present at the scene failed to intervene or assist him.
He further claimed that even after he contacted the police helpline, no help arrived for nearly 30 minutes. According to Gupta, a chef eventually stepped in and helped prevent the situation from becoming more serious.
Gupta was later transported by ambulance to a private hospital in critical condition. He underwent complicated surgery for a fractured elbow, with plates inserted to repair the broken bone.
The retired officer has also made serious allegations against both the police and the hospital. He claimed that the hospital prepared an inaccurate medico-legal case (MLC) report that failed to record the bleeding injury to his head and the serious damage to his elbow.
In his written complaint, Gupta requested that an FIR be registered immediately against the accused parking attendant under stringent provisions, including sections concerning attempted murder and grievous injury. He also demanded strict action against those responsible.
Police said an investigation has been initiated after receiving Gupta’s written complaint.
