Every year, Indians eagerly await the launch of new iPhones, although most people are not necessarily planning to buy Apple’s latest models. The excitement often comes from the price cuts that older iPhones typically receive after a new generation is introduced. This year, however, Apple has taken a different approach with the launch of the iPhone 18 Pro. Instead of reducing the prices of previous models, the company has increased them by as much as 20 per cent.
For instance, the iPhone 17 now costs Rs 99,900 on Apple’s website. That is Rs 17,000 more than its earlier price of Rs 82,900, which was in effect until the iPhone 18 Pro launch. In other words, if you wanted to buy an iPhone at the old price, yesterday was the better day.
However, there is still a chance to get an older iPhone without paying the increased prices. You will just have to act quickly. While the iPhone 18 Pro lineup will go on sale from September 18 and the iPhone Duo is expected to arrive in October, stocks of older iPhone models are already limited.
India Today Tech contacted retailers across Delhi NCR to check whether older models, including the iPhone 17 Pro, were still available for purchase.
Old iPhone stock limited
A staff member at Reliance Digital said that billing for all iPhones had been temporarily stopped following the price increase. The employee asked us to get in touch the next day for information about the availability of older models. At Croma, a staff member confirmed that there were currently no iPhones in stock for purchase.
However, some older iPhones are still available at certain outlets. A representative at Vijay Sales said the iPhone 17 Pro Max could be purchased for Rs 1,72,900, compared with its original launch price of Rs 1,49,900. When questioned about the higher price, the representative confirmed that the model had also received a price hike.
Some stores are continuing to sell iPhones at their previous prices if they still have units from older inventory. Authorised Apple resellers, including Imagine and iPlanet, confirmed that the iPhone 17 Pro was still available at its original launch price of Rs 1,34,900. A few outlets also had the iPhone 17 available for its earlier price of Rs 82,900.
However, these older prices will remain available only while the existing inventory lasts. Retailers that still had the iPhone 17 in stock said that prices would be increased once they receive fresh shipments.
For those looking to purchase the iPhone 16, the new price is Rs 89,900. However, after checking with several retailers, we were unable to find the model in stock at the time of checking.
