The Sports Ministry on Wednesday approved 246 team officials and support staff for India’s contingent at the 20th Asian Games, which will begin in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, on September 19.
A total of 503 Indian athletes will compete at the Games. The Ministry had initially cleared 492 athletes, but as anticipated, several additional names have been included, primarily in the athletics contingent.
India’s overall contingent now stands at 768 members, including 19 officials, among them chef de mission Sahdev Yadav and chief medical officer Dr Dinshaw Pardiwala.
Athletics has the largest contingent, with 79 athletes, although javelin star Neeraj Chopra will miss the Games due to injury. The athletics team has been allocated 31 support staff members, including 20 coaches under national coach P Radhakrishnan.
The two Indian cricket teams have been approved a support staff of 20, led by former India batter VVS Laxman.
India will compete across 36 disciplines at the Asian Games, which are scheduled to conclude on October 4.
