White worms were reportedly discovered crawling in khichuri prepared for children at an anganwadi centre in the Kuthibari area of Dinhata in West Bengal’s Cooch Behar district. Two local children allegedly fell sick after consuming the meal.
The incident came to light on Wednesday morning, triggering anger among villagers. Residents gathered outside the anganwadi centre to protest against the quality of food served to the children.

As part of the protest, villagers locked the anganwadi centre. The move reflected their outrage over the alleged discovery of worms in the khichuri prepared for the children.
The incident occurred at Kuthibari under Putimari-2 Gram Panchayat in Dinhata and has caused considerable concern among local residents.
SIMILAR INCIDENTS IN BIHAR
A separate incident was reported from Bihar’s Nalanda district, where at least 40 students fell ill after detergent powder was allegedly served instead of salt with their mid-day meal at Parasi Middle School. The students complained of stomach pain and vomiting and were taken to hospital. Bihar Rural Development Minister Shravan Kumar visited the hospital and assured that strict action would be taken against those responsible.
In another incident in Arwal district, worms were reportedly discovered in a soybean dish supplied by an NGO to 75 schools in the Sadar block. Headmasters prevented the food from being served and informed the Education Department. District Education Officer Asgar Ali said an investigation was underway and that action would be taken against the NGO if negligence was established.
