Advance sales of Ramayana surpass Rs 10 crore, with the Hindi version leading the way

Advance bookings for Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana: Rise of a Legend are gaining momentum ahead of its pre-Diwali release. The Hindi version is accounting for most of the demand, while ticket sales for the Kannada and Telugu versions are also increasing across the country.

Maharashtra, Delhi and Karnataka are leading advance sales among states, while the National Capital Region (NCR), Mumbai and Bengaluru are the strongest major city markets. Exhibitors are expected to add more shows during the final week as they finalise schedules following earlier delays caused by a revenue-sharing dispute.

According to trade website Sacnilk, the film had recorded Rs 10.15 crore in gross advance bookings across India in all languages as of 3 pm IST on October 24, with 12 days remaining before its release. Confirmed consumer bookings, excluding seats blocked by exhibitors, stood at Rs 7.98 crore.

Around 1.81 lakh tickets had been sold across 4,352 tracked shows in 134 cities. The Hindi version contributed the bulk of the sales, although bookings for the Kannada and Telugu versions continued to rise.

Between 6 am and 3 pm, advance sales increased by Rs 35.90 lakh. The film also recorded its first housefull show after an earlier period in which none of the tracked screenings had sold out and a considerable number of tickets remained available.

An earlier update from Sacnilk at 11.42 am on October 23, 2026, showed that the film had sold more than 1.47 lakh tickets across 3,964 shows. Gross advance collections, including blocked seats, stood at Rs 8.27 crore, while the figure excluding them was Rs 6.25 crore.

At that stage, total gross bookings had increased by 52 per cent from Rs 5.44 crore during the first 24 hours. Collections excluding blocked seats had risen by 73 per cent, from Rs 3.61 crore, while the value of blocked seats increased from Rs 1.83 crore to Rs 2.02 crore.

Consequently, blocked seats accounted for nearly 24 per cent of the gross, down from approximately 34 per cent during the initial period. Of the Rs 2.83 crore added to collections during that interval, almost 93 per cent came from actual ticket purchases rather than blocked inventory.

The number of tracked shows grew by 12 per cent, from 3,533 during the first 24 hours. Ticket bookings, including blocked seats, increased by 58 per cent from 92,755, while average ticket sales per show rose from 26 to 37.

Maharashtra leads state-wise sales

Maharashtra topped the state-wise advance booking chart with Rs 2.31 crore, contributing 23 per cent of the total gross. Delhi followed with Rs 2.13 crore, while Karnataka accounted for Rs 1.45 crore. Together, the top 10 states generated 87 per cent of advance sales.

Among major urban markets, the NCR led with Rs 2.13 crore from 27,177 tickets, marking a 7 per cent increase from the previous day. Mumbai recorded Rs 1.60 crore from 22,864 tickets, up 8 per cent.

Bengaluru witnessed the biggest jump, with collections climbing 173 per cent from the previous day to Rs 1.20 crore from 18,147 tickets. Hyderabad generated Rs 62.09 lakh from 16,705 tickets, registering a 33 per cent increase. Pune recorded Rs 45.72 lakh from 6,452 tickets, up 8 per cent.

Hindi version drives demand

The Hindi version generated Rs 8.91 crore, accounting for 88 per cent of total advance sales. The Kannada version was the largest contributor among the southern-language versions, collecting Rs 96.57 lakh, or 10 per cent. The Telugu version brought in Rs 28.11 lakh, representing the remaining 3 per cent.

By Thursday night, advance bookings had crossed 50,000 tickets across PVR INOX and Cinepolis. Premium large-screen formats, including IMAX and 4DX, were contributing to early demand, while bookings for standard multiplex screenings continued to build.

The film’s current show count remains below that of major releases such as Dhurandhar: The Revenge, which sold over 9.50 lakh opening-day advance tickets across more than 17,000 shows before its release. The number of screenings for Ramayana could increase as exhibitors finalise schedules following earlier delays over a revenue-sharing dispute between distributors and cinema owners.

Final-week booking surge awaited

A significant rise in bookings is anticipated during the final week before release, beginning around October 29, when wider screen allocations and complete schedules are expected to become available nationwide.

According to industry benchmarks cited in the report, selling 3.5 lakh opening-day tickets across the three leading national cinema chains would represent a strong start ahead of Diwali. Reaching five lakh tickets would be a more ambitious target.

Trade circles have discussed an India net opening of Rs 70 crore as an ambitious benchmark. The film is scheduled to arrive in theatres on Thursday, November 5, ahead of the national holiday period. An opening of Rs 60 crore has also been discussed as a potential starting point before the main festive period begins on November 9. Paid previews are scheduled for November 4.

First film in a two-part adaptation

Based on Valmiki’s ancient epic, the film stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Goddess Sita, Ravie Dubey as Lakshman, Yash as Ravana and Sunny Deol as Lord Hanuman.

The project is co-produced by Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus Studios, in association with DNEG and Yash’s Monster Mind Creations.

The first instalment of the planned two-part adaptation will release in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam. The second part is scheduled to arrive during Diwali 2027.
