If you are planning to watch Ranbir Kapoor portray Lord Rama on the big screen this Diwali, booking tickets early may be a good idea, especially if you want premium seats. Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana: The Rise of a Legend has earned Rs 5.44 crore through advance bookings across India, with close to 92,000 tickets sold. In Mumbai, prices for select recliner seats have already reached Rs 2,770.
The early figures indicate considerable interest in one of Indian cinema’s most ambitious projects. By 2 pm on Wednesday, the film had secured advance bookings in 104 cities, generating Rs 3.61 crore after block bookings were excluded, according to Sacnilk.
Delhi-NCR tops advance bookings, Mumbai tickets priced above Rs 2,700
Delhi-NCR is leading the advance booking figures, collecting Rs 1.52 crore from 19,913 tickets. Mumbai ranks second, earning Rs 1.10 crore from around 16,000 tickets. Pune, Kolkata and Bengaluru have also contributed to the total.
The Hindi version has generated the highest revenue, bringing in Rs 5.15 crore. The Kannada-dubbed version has collected Rs 27.95 lakh, while the Telugu version has earned Rs 48,700.
According to BookMyShow, viewers seeking a premium experience will have to pay Rs 2,770 for select recliner seats at PVR ICON in Phoenix Palladium, Lower Parel, Mumbai, for certain IMAX 3D screenings on November 5 and 6. The earliest listed show in the city begins at 6.45 am, while another is scheduled for 11.45 pm.
Advance bookings opened on Tuesday, more than two weeks before the film’s November 5 release. The initial rollout was reportedly slow because of a dispute between Dharma Productions and exhibitors over distribution shares. The makers subsequently announced that bookings were available nationwide.
They also unveiled Rise of Asura, a video featuring Yash as Ravana performing to the sounds of the ‘Ravana Tandav’. The Hindi version includes vocals by Vishal Dadlani and lyrics written by Kumar Vishwas.
A star-studded cast for an ambitious cinematic project
The two-part adaptation features Ranbir Kapoor as Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita and Yash as Ravana. The ensemble also includes Sunny Deol, Ravi Dubey, Arun Govil, Lara Dutta, Anupam Kher and Rakul Preet Singh.
The first instalment is expected to cover the early stages of Rama’s journey, with the broader narrative continuing across two films. Sunny Deol plays Hanuman, while Ravi Dubey portrays Lakshman.
The filmmakers are presenting the project as a large-scale cinematic spectacle, with releases planned in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam. The film will also be screened in IMAX and other premium formats.
Ramayana: The Rise of a Legend is scheduled to release worldwide in theatres on November 5, 2026, across Indian and international markets. Sony Pictures will oversee its overseas distribution, and the film is also planned for premium formats, including IMAX.
The story will continue with Ramayana: Part Two, scheduled for Diwali 2027. Ranbir has also disclosed that approximately 50 per cent of the sequel had already been filmed earlier this year, indicating that work on the second chapter is well underway ahead of the first film’s release.
