Nayanthara takes on a double role as a police officer and a Goddess in the trailer for Mookuthi Amman 2, released by the makers on Wednesday. The actor returns as the Goddess from the 2020 film and also portrays a police officer who must battle mythical villains threatening innocent lives.
The trailer features Regina Cassandra and Duniya Vijay as mythical antagonists who arrive on Earth intending to destroy it and strengthen their powers. Their actions put children and other innocent people in danger as the threat grows.
Nayanthara’s police officer character is shown as a timid woman who fears even everyday situations, such as sleeping alone. However, when Mookuthi Amman is invoked, she confronts the demons. The trailer highlights the contrast between the frightened police officer and the powerful Goddess, while offering glimpses of the grand visuals and spectacle often seen in Sundar C’s films.
Directed by Sundar C, the sequel is scheduled to hit theatres on November 6. It will compete at the box office with Suriya’s Tamil film Scene and the pan-India release Ramayana: Part 1.
Sundar C has replaced RJ Balaji as director for the sequel. Balaji directed and acted in the first instalment but has denied having any involvement in the new film.
The supporting cast of Mookuthi Amman 2 includes Urvashi, Yogi Babu, Myna Nandini, Garuda Ram, Abhinaya, Shruthy S, Singapuli Annavi, VR Swaminathan, Sivakumar S, Sunil Varma Indukuri, Varshini Venkat, Pala Karuppiah, Ananda Adhista Lakshmi, Nitin Sathyaa and Deblina Chaki.
Hiphop Tamizha, who frequently works with Sundar C, has composed the film’s music. Gopi Amarnath is handling cinematography, Fenny Oliver is the editor, and Rajasekar K is responsible for the stunt choreography. Venkatt Ragavan has written the screenplay and dialogues, while Ishari K Ganesh has produced the film under the Vels Film International banner.
With Nayanthara reprising her role as Mookuthi Amman, the sequel blends mythology, fantasy, comedy and action. The film is slated for a theatrical release on November 6.
