Elon Musk’s SpaceXSI has entered into a partnership with Tech Mahindra, under which the Indian IT company will use the Grok Build coding agent to develop software and modernise legacy systems.
The agreement marks SpaceXSI’s first collaboration with an Indian IT services company such as Tech Mahindra. However, neither company has disclosed the financial details of the deal. The partnership comes amid growing uncertainty among Indian IT and software companies as the adoption of artificial intelligence reshapes the industry.
Tech Mahindra to use Grok AI
The partnership aims to accelerate software development and improve productivity through Grok AI. Tech Mahindra plans to use the technology to develop industry-specific solutions for clients across sectors including technology, telecommunications, banking and financial services, and manufacturing.
Grok Build supports multiple stages of software development, from interpreting technical requirements and generating code to assisting with testing and updating applications. Tech Mahindra intends to integrate these capabilities throughout the software development lifecycle rather than restrict their use to individual coding tasks.
A key area of focus will be legacy systems, which often contain millions of lines of code written over several decades and remain integrated with databases, payment platforms and other critical business operations.
AI tools can help analyse existing code, document systems, identify dependencies and assist engineers in rewriting or migrating applications. Tech Mahindra also plans to provide employee training and certification programmes as part of the initiative.
The partnership is part of the SpaceX Super Intelligence Partner Network, announced by SpaceXSI to bring together companies developing products, services and integrations using Grok. More than 130 companies participated in the network's early-access phase. Its launch partners include Nvidia, Databricks and NTT Data.
Tech Mahindra has previously established partnerships with Google Cloud and Microsoft and has developed AI-powered platforms. Other Indian IT companies have also struck agreements with AI firms. TCS, for example, has partnerships with OpenAI and Anthropic, while Wipro has entered into similar arrangements.
