Union Finance Minister Niramala Sitharaman stated that a national digital library would be built for youngsters to ease access to high-quality literature on Wednesday when presenting the Union Budget 2023 in Parliament.
According to Sitharaman, states would be urged to establish physical libraries at the panchayat level as part of the National Education Policy 2020 campaign. She added that there would be enough literature in local languages at the libraries.
She said that the online library would include high-quality literature in all genres, languages, and locations.
In order to make up for the missed learning during the pandemic years, Sitharaman also stated that the National Book Trust, Children's Book Trust, and other sources will be urged to provide and refill non-curricular titles in regional languages and English.
The aforementioned publishers will be ordered to supply these works to both the planned physical libraries and the digital library, Sitharaman continued. According to the finance minister, the government would support this endeavor by engaging with literacy-focused NGOs.
Sitharaman announced the involvement of financial regulators to create age-appropriate materials to increase financial literacy among the populace in the Union Budget 2023–24, her fifth consecutive budget. Additionally, the National Digital Library and the affiliated physical libraries around the nation would receive these works.
