A transgender couple in Kozhikode, Kerala, named Zahhad and Ziya Paval is getting ready to welcome parenthood. The couple announced their impending pregnancy, which could be the first transgender pregnancy in the nation.
The pair, who have been cohabiting for the past three years, shared the good news on Instagram. Dancer Ziya Paval revealed on Instagram that her partner Zahhad is eight months pregnant. The couple will reportedly become parents for the first time in India's transgender community in March.
Zahhad was born a woman who became a man, while Ziya was born a man who became a woman. After discovering their transgender identities in their early adult years, they both fled their families.
"His ambition of becoming a father and my dream of becoming a mother is about to come true. Currently, (Zahhad's) belly contains an eight-month-old fetus. This is the first trans man to become pregnant in India, according to what we've learned," Paval wrote in the Instagram post.
"Despite not being a woman by birth or by nature, I had a feminine dream: I wanted to hear a baby call me "mother." We haven't been together for three years. He (Zahad) has a desire of becoming a father, just like I do, and a life of eight months is currently growing inside of him with his complete consent "Ziya wrote in the post's caption.
Both of them have had hormone therapy as a part of their transition. Zahhad, who was undergoing a transition to become a man, halted it in order to conceive a child.
"Three years ago, when we moved in together, we believed that our lives should be unique from those of other trans people. The majority of transgender relationships are shunned by both society and each partner's family. In order for there to be a person even when our days in this world are finished, we wanted to have a baby "said Ziya.
Zahhad was having breast removal surgery, but it had to be postponed because of her pregnancy. According to local media sources, the couple had expressed interest in adopting a child in the past. However, as a transsexual couple, they found the legal proceedings difficult.
The doctors and Pavel's family have been acknowledged for their assistance. After giving birth to a child the next month, Zahhad will carry on with his transition to manhood.
We plan to feed the infant from the breast milk bank at the medical college since Zahhad removed both breasts, Ziya stated.
