Around 300 goats are killed by lightning in the Khattu Khal jungles of Uttarkashi

 


Almost 350 goats and lambs were killed by lightning on Saturday night in the Khattu Khal forests of Uttarkashi.

Sanjeev Rawat, a resident of Barsu village in Bhatwari block, and a friend were transporting their sheep and goats from Rishikesh to Uttarkashi when lightning struck a large pine tree, electrocuting at least 350 animals to death. The incident happened in the Khattu Khal area of Dunda block.

According to a resident who confirmed the story, Jagmohan Rawat, the tragedy near the village of Khattu Khal resulted in the greatest loss of animal life in recent memory.

A team will be dispatched to the scene to assess the damage, according to a news release from the emergency management agency, which also noted that sheep and goat deaths had been reported. To the district administration, the team will submit a report.

The Met Office predicts that rain will continue to fall in Uttarakhand through March 30.
