Muslim community members in Karnataka's Shivamogga district recited the azaan in front of the district collector's office. In response to KS Eshwarappa's remark about azaan, the protesters also chanted chants against the BJP leader for Karnataka.
The Shiavmogga District Collector's office could be seen in the background of a video of the incident as the young man was reciting Azaan. In front of the Vidhana Soudha, the demonstrators have also threatened to do the same.
"We might ignore that leader (Eshwarappa) if he had disparaged our parents, but he only mentioned Allah and azaan. We shall also recite azaan in front of Vidhana Soudha if necessary. We don't act timidly. The Muslim community should come together "a man standing outside the DC office stated.
After the incident, the Shivamogga Police filed a case under Section 107. "We have given the young demonstrators advice to desist from similar behavior and released them. There hasn't been any detention of anyone. It is being investigated to learn more about their history. We will act if anything untoward is discovered ", according to Shivamogga's police chief.
BJP leader Eshwarappa was criticized by JD(S) leader H D Kumaraswamy for the Azaan statement.
