Renuka Chowdhury, a Congress leader, will accuse Prime Minister Narendra Modi of defamation after his remark about "Surpanakha."

Congresswoman Renuka Chowdhury announced that she would bring a defamation lawsuit against Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his "Suparnakha" remark in Parliament in 2018. This announcement came one day after the Surat court in Gujarat found Rahul Gandhi guilty and sentenced him to two years in prison in the "Modi Surname" case. The former Union Minister asked the following query on Twitter: "Let's see how quickly the courts will respond now?"

In addition to her post, Chowdhury also shared a video purportedly showing PM Modi equating her laughter with Suparnakha from the Hindu epic Ramayana.

. "I was addressed as Surpanakha on the first floor of the house by this sexist, egotistical jerk. I'll accuse him of libel in court. Let's see how quickly the courts respond right now, "she wrote in a tweet.

The Congressman tweeted a few hours after Rahul Gandhi was found guilty of making offensive comments against Prime Minister Modi's "surname" and given a two-year jail sentence by the Surat district court. The Surat district court found the Gandhi scion guilty of insulting Prime Minister Narendra Modi by saying, "Why do all thieves have the Modi surname?" Then, he was given 30 days to file an appeal after being given bail.

After being convicted, what options does Rahul Gandhi have?

What choices Rahul Gandhi has going forward in light of his conviction in the case and whether he would be disqualified and lose his Lok Sabha membership are the questions that need to be answered. Whether or not the Representation of People Act would apply to him is a hot topic on social media.

After Rahul Gandhi was found guilty, his party declared that its legal team would look into the possibility of appealing the decision to a higher court. He has been given time by the Surat court to appeal the ruling.

Rahul Gandhi can appeal against his conviction and sentence within 30 days, according to Chief Judicial Magistrate HH Varma's order, suggesting that his Lok Sabha membership will be preserved for the time being until the higher court makes a decision.

In the meantime, Congress has made the decision to demonstrate against Rahul Gandhi's conviction and meet with the Indian President alongside other parties. Immediately following Rahul Gandhi's conviction in a defamation case, the major opposition party declared a nationwide movement and declared it would pursue the matter politically in addition to legally.
